Missing Your Friends? Here’s How to Socialize Through Social Distance

So social distancing is our reality these days, and while there are things about it that super suck — it’s not all bad news. We’ve all got plenty of time on our hands, and there are too many awesome activities in the world to be bored!

Thanks to apps like Facebook Live, Zoom and Duo, there are ways to have fun with your friends and loved ones from the safety of your own home! Thank god for technology, amiright?!

First, let’s talk tech. Here are your easiest, most user-friendly options for video calls:

Facebook Messenger
Zoom
Instagram live
Google Hangouts
Skype
Facetime
Duo

And there’s always the OG: texting. Any of the above can be used to have a virtual gathering! And if you want to make these live streams a little more interactive and fun, get SDKs (check https://www.agora.io/en/products/interactive-live-streaming/ for more info) that can help make your real-time exchanges much more creative. If your internet is getting in the way of socializing online with your friends then you might find it beneficial to seek a new provider who can help your online needs. You potentially might look at wifi packages similar to xfinity internet packages as a possible example or you could find a local provider if preferable!

Here are some ideas for ways to have social distancing fun times!

  • Play a game. Try Kiss, Marry or Kill; Truth or Dare; or Would You Rather. Also, Cards Against Humanity has a free online version you can play with friends, and that game is the GOAT. (And there are always multiplayer online games like Fortnite, designed specifically for people to play together virtually.)
  • Make-your-own-bar. Just because you can’t go out doesn’t mean you can’t imbibe with your friends! Make a signature cocktail or have everyone pick their pleasure. Cheers to cleaner air and global unity!
  • Do tarot readings. If you or one of your friends is into the cards, do a group reading where everyone gets a turn. Or, if you want to go a step further, why don’t you check out something like this full list on juneauempire.com to find the best online tarot card reading sites to get a more accurate prediction of your future? What better time to do it than now, especially with the future looking so uncertain for many people. Plus, it is also enjoyable too, so this is something definitely worth considering.
  • Watch and live chat. Choose a cheesy movie or TV series (Love Is Blind is PERFECT to hate on) and live chat with your friends via text or messenger.
  • Do cooking demos. Have a friend who dominates in the kitchen? Do a group call where they teach you how to make a delicious dish.
  • Practice yoga. One of my BFFs is an amazing yoga teacher and she’s been doing classes via Zoom. Find a friend who’s into yoga, tai chi, Zumba or another type of exercise you can practice at home.
  • Eat in your cars at your fave restaurant. Video chat while you chow down.

Have other ideas? Leave ’em in the comments! ‘Cuz just because we’re quarantined doesn’t mean we can’t have fun. Together but separate!
