Woodstock Sanctuary for Sale; Operation Moving to New, Larger Locale
Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary is saying so long to its eponymous home. The famous farm animal Shangri-La is moving to a larger location in High Falls, NY.
The new digs were previously used as a summer camp, and the spot is a whopping six times larger than where Woodstock’s current home since 2014: 150 acres of space versus 23. The added acreage will allow the group to take in additional animals, and it’s only 90 minutes from New York City, so city dwellers will have an amazing new opportunity for cow-snuggling day trips.
So why move? The team’s current facilities in Woodstock, NY, are maxed out, with no room for additional grazing animals or spots left in the barn or coops. The sanctuary is also wildly popular with school kids and visiting groups, so the 23 acres just isn’t cutting it, the team reports on their website.
A 150 plot doesn’t come cheap, and the team needs to raise two million dollars for the move. All 250+ animal residents will be along for the ride (via trailers), OF COURSE.
According to the folks at Woodstock, the High Falls property will include a whole host of new additions, including an Education Center with informational displays on the impact of animal agriculture; vegan meals in the dining hall, five lodges for overnight visitors, and even as a venue for summer camps, veg-fests and conferences in the future. (The team has also answered a whole host of questions on their website, for curious fans and animal lovers.)
So what about the Woodstock, NY, farm? It’s now for sale. While the team doesn’t recommend it as a spot for a public sanctuary (due to permitting issues), they do suggest it be used as a private sanctuary, equine property or vegetable farm. The property for sale includes the entire sanctuary grounds, plus a 3,100 square-foot home and restored farmhouse that can serve as a bed and breakfast. There are tons of photos and property stats on the Woodstock Sanctuary website for potential buyers.
In addition to a buyer, the team is also looking for volunteers, particularly people with carpentry or construction/trade skills like electricians and plumbers.
All in all, Woodstock Sanctuary for sale is huge news—so who wants to buy it? Maybe the better question is, who wouldn’t?
