Penn of Penn & Teller Loses 105 Pounds on a Healthy Vegan Diet

Legendary magician Penn Jillette of Penn & Teller just made someone disappear: himself. One-third of himself, anyway.

The 6’7″ star recently shed a whopping 105 pounds, dropping from 330 to 225.

The weight loss was thanks to a major lifestyle change and (drumroll please!) healthy vegan diet. After Jillette’s high blood pressure put him in the hospital, his doctor put him on six meds to control the condition, reports PEOPLE.

“My doctor said I needed to get my weight down, and if I brought it down 30 or 40 lbs. it would be a little easier to control. And then he said something in passing that completely blew my mind – he said, ‘If you got down to 230, you probably wouldn’t need any of the meds.'”

Initially, Jillette was on a super low calorie diet, but once he hit his goal weight, he switched to Joel Fuhrman’s nutritarian plan. Basically, that means no animal products (vegan!), no processed grains, and no added sugar or salt.

“I eat unbelievable amounts of food but just very, very, very healthy food,” he told PEOPLE.

Common meals include huge salads with vinegar as dressing for lunch, enormous amounts of blueberries with cocoa powder for dessert and three pounds of greens and vegetable stew with black or brown rice for dinner.

He also made it clear that the word “vegan” isn’t quite descriptive enough: “To be clear:  I don’t eat many animal products (like none) any more, but ‘vegan’ doesn’t describe me well. There are many unhealthy vegans,” he Tweeted yesterday.

Oh, the power of a HEALTHY vegan diet.
