Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has long been known for his outspoken views regarding healthy nutrition, particularly when it comes to children. For over a decade he’s been pushing schools to offer healthier options for kids, and he’s ruffled more than a few feathers along the way.

Yesterday, he took part in a live discussion on Mumsnet, a British website/discussion hub for parents. In it, he spoke highly of vegetarian and vegan diets, and even said he opts into herbivorous eating two or three times per week.

“Vegetarian and well managed vegan diets are looking very good at the moment in general health terms. We should all be learning from them and focusing on enjoying more plant-based delights. I personally try to eat vegetarian 2-3 times a week. It will save you a load of money and it challenges you to be more creative but it’s been an absolute joy,” Oliver said in the discussion.

“I’ve written a vegetarian book and I’m waiting for the chance for Channel 4 to show it,” he added. “They’re not yet convinced the general public want to see it, personally in my position I disagree.”

In addition to his soon-to-be-released cookbook (hopefully), Oliver is currently spearheading a campaign to support compulsory food education in schools, a worthy cause indeed.
