LA’s Historic Hollywood Bowl Venue Adding New Vegan Options

The history of the famed Hollywood Bowl dates back nearly a hundred years; everyone from Billie Holiday to Judy Garland to Elton John has graced the famous stage, and now the venue is marking a new milestone: adding vegan eats to its menu.

Patina, the arena’s food purveyor for the past 16 years, has partnered up with fellow eateries Gracias Madre (a plant-based Mexican restaurant) and Cafe Gratitude (a popular chain of vegan cafes) to add new plant-based options to this year’s menu.

“A number of years ago, we became aware of the growing need to service those with dietary or culinary preferences and in turn began offering vegetarian and vegan options at most of our dining outposts onsite,” Patina’s Chef & Founder Joachim Splichal told Latest Vegan News. “While the core of offering vegan options is not new, we are excited to open our kitchen for the first-time to Café Gratitude/Gracias Madre, who specialize in this type of cuisine, for a further enhanced menu of plant-based/vegan options.”

(The bowl, which sits in the shadow of the Hollywood sign, is an outdoor amphitheater, so its season starts in late June.)

“When crafting the 2015 menu, we found that our vegan/vegetarian options were an area that we could amplify this season,” Splichal added. “While experts in California/French cuisine, we strongly value and respect fellow members of the culinary community that strive for the same levels of excellence in their given focus. With that, we have long admired the team behind Café Gratitude/Gracias Madre and felt they were the ideal partner in this new collaboration. We have worked closely with the team to identify and perfect the new vegan offerings and are excited to see the reaction of this year’s season attendees.”

New edible items for hungry concertgoers will include a Raw Pesto Kelp Noodles, a Macrobiotic Bowl, and a Vegan BLT,  all available at the venue’s Market Cafés, Rooftop Grill, The Wine Bar, and Staccato, reports Los Angeles Magazine. For dessert, they’ll have an almond-milk tiramisu topped with cashew-based whipped cream. They’ll also offer a picnic basket curated by Gracias Madre.
