Heather Mills, former wife of former Beatle, Sir Paul McCartney, is an outspoken vegan—and now it’s clear where her edible advocacy started.

The model and activist told BANG Showbiz that she originally adopted a vegan diet to heal her leg.

“I didn’t really have an understanding of healthy food when I went vegan, I did it to stop my leg from being chopped off more, I didn’t want to lose my knee. My friend told me that she cured herself of breast cancer by going completely vegan, and I went, ‘Vegan smegan, what on earth? I can’t give up my meat.’ But she dragged me off to America and basically saved my knee,” she told BANG Showbiz.

She also revealed that she attended the Hippocrates Health Institute in Florida, where she first started eating a raw vegan diet.

Mills is now known for her lines of VBites eateries and VBites Foods, all vegan.
