Australian Musician Embarking on $2 a Day Vegan Eating Challenge for Charity

According to author Ellen Jaffe Jones, we can all Eat Vegan on $4 a Day. But how many of us could survive on $1.53?

That’s the question driving Live Below the Line, an Australian charity campaign designed to raise awareness for those living below the “extreme poverty line.” The challenge asks Australians to commit to eating on $2 a day (about $1.53 USD) for five days, starting on May 4.

Rock guitarist (for the band Frenzal Rhomb) and radio host Lindsay “The Doctor” McDougall is embarking on the challenge. The fact that he’s a vegan, however, adds another level to his effort.

As he said in his promo video: “But it’s harder for me because I’m vegan, and all vegan food has a self-righteousness tax lumped on top of it.”

Clearly, he’s a comedian.

Anyone can donate to McDougall’s vegan eating challenge (or to anyone else participating) by visiting LiveBelowtheLine.com.au/donations. Thus far, they’ve raised $157,527.
