Alicia Silverstone, Gene Baur, Jane Velez-Mitchell Speaking at VegFest Michigan 2015 Today

The 16th incarnation of Michigan’s annual VegFest Michigan 2015 is kicking off today, and its 16th incarnation boasts a roster of notable names and big brands.

Actress and activist Alicia Silverstone, Farm Sanctuary founder Gene Baur and journalist Jane Velez-Mitchell are among the presenters at the event, hosted by VegMichigan, the state’s largest plant-based advocacy  group.

So what will these vegan heroes be talking about?

Silverstone will speak about the principles of a kind lifestyle, Baur about living The Farm Sanctuary life, Mitchell about how we’re approaching an animal rights tipping zone, and Anya Todd about debunking vegan diet myths.

As far as cooking demos, Vera Hampton will showcase easy vegan cooking tips, Russ Hagy will make African Peanut Soup and Bekah Galang will whip up an ‘I Can’t Believe It’s Vegan’ chocolate cake.

In addition to speakers and chef presenters, the event will also showcase a food court with over 70 restaurants, bakeries and food companies doling out samples and delicious vegan eats for purchase. Brands and restaurants will include Detroit Vegan Soul, Heidi Ho Organics, Upton’s Naturals, Om Cafe and more. Plus, there’ll be an 80 booth exhibit area for eco-friendly, cruelty-free shopping and the latest info on how a plant-based diet can improve human health, animal well-being and the environment.

Kids are welcome, too, and they’ll be anything but bored with a dedicated activity room stocked with art, games and stories.

Attendance to the event has continued to grow. Last year, they saw around 5,000 attendees and are likely to host an even bigger crowd in 2015.

VegFest runs from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, Michigan. Admission is free for members, $8.00 prepaid and $10 at the door (free for children under 6). Visit VegMichigan.org.
